There is a great variety of businesses for sale in the Axarqia region. These include shops, hotels, pensions, bed and breakfast establishments, bars, restaurants etc. Unless you have a reasonable command of Spanish it would be best to concentrate on finding a suitable business in the areas of Spain with substantial numbers of English speaking tourists and residents. The Axarquia region, which is located on the Eastern Costa de Sol, is one such area.

The Buying Process


The information outlined below is intended purely as a guide. Once you have begun your search in earnest Axar-Commercial will be there to help and guide you through all stages of the buying process.


Businesses for sale will have premises that are either Leasehold or Freehold. The majority are Leasehold and offer leases of varying timescales, usually in the range of 5 to 25 years.


Leasehold premises can be bought and sold on. The Rent will rise each year in line with the cost of living in Spain which is set by the Spanish Statistical Bureau. During the period of your lease in addition to your monthly rent you will be responsible for paying Local and National Government taxes relating to the business, personal taxes and social security payments and utility bills.


Freehold premises usually incur a much larger initial investment but offer the advantage of not having to pay rent. As a Freeholder you would also have the opportunity to offer your premises on a Lease whilst retaining the Freehold. You would then receive a one-off payment for the lease and a monthly rental for the period of the lease.


Once you have decided on your business you will be responsible for obtaining the necessary licences etc. At this stage we will introduce you to a qualified advisor who will assist you with all the applications for the necessary licenses, permits and your all-important N.I.E number, he or she will also offer additional services such as bookkeeping, insurance etc. Please remember that Spanish bureaucracy can sometimes appear to be slow, cumbersome and difficult to follow which is why we recommend you use this service.

The costs you will incur when purchasing your new business will include legal fees of approximately 2,500€/3,000€ (this will include licence applications, transfer of name, application for N.I.E. numbers etc.), a 10% deposit to take the business from the open market for a pre-determined period, please note that the balance will need to be paid within one to two months of signing the contract, and 3 months rent of which 2 months will be refundable at the end of the lease.
